CellFactor Mod: Chimera Island

Enter the Cell Factor Mods!

Here is an early video from a CellFactor Mod - Chimera Island. The Video features a flythrough of the island, as well as some deathmatch combat. This is one of the first applications of Physx I have seen that isn't 'Physx for the sake of Physx", and the effects and gameplay elements fit within the context of the level. Keep in mind this is early footage so we can expect some refinements closer to the release date.

Want to know the biggest surprise about this mod? It has been put together by primarily one person - Dane Johnston.

Ageia Relaxes Royalties

Ageia has lowered the barriers to programming a Physx enabled game by dropping some contract requirements and allowing developers to include the Ageia Physx with a new EULA. The press release can be found here.

This is exciting news as now a developer does not have to go to Ageia for the 'keys to the vault'. They can quickly incorporate the Physx acceleration, either in hardware or software without additional encumberances. This is great news for the end user - as hopefully it speeds adoption of Physx acceleration.

Stoked Rider

The guys over at Bongfish Interactive have put up a nice little developer diary about their new snowboarding sim: Stokedrider. There is a bit of in-depth discussion regarding physics and PhysX-driven avalanches. In the early 'pre-release' title the snow breaks away from the slope in a little 'mini-lanche' as you board down a mountain. The snow particle count can get into high twenty thousands. Without hardware Physx the particle count drops dramatically.

Fall for Physx?

Over at Ageia they have a rather nice bundle put together - when you purchase a BFG or ASUS Physx card you can get full versions of City of Villains™, Bet On Soldier: Blood Of Sahara™ and Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter™. Nice that these titles are only a rebate form away!

Bioware Adopts Ageia Technology into Eclipse Engine

Bioware, creators of such titles as Neverwinter Nights, Baldur's Gate and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic have announced they will be working with Ageia to incorporate the Ageia Physx into their upcoming Eclipse Engine.

On a personal note some of my favorite titles have been developed by Bioware - so that is great news!

The full release is available here.

Roboblitz Hits Virtual Shelves

Roboblitz, the first game available based on the Unreal 3 engine, is available today for purchase from Roboblitz.com. The game is entirely physics based which makes for some rather interesting object interactions. I am hoping to get a review of this title up in the next few days. Stay tuned.
