Ageia, creators of the Physx PPU, have created a benchmark to gauge physics performance both with hardware and with software. The benchmark, RealityMark, is not yet available for download but I was able to score this video showing the performance of hardware acceleration vs. software. Some interesting things to note - in the software clip you will see that the cloth simulation is right out the door - this is likely due to the fact it is crawling along at about 2 frames per second.

Better late than never I always say. By virtue of the fact that this site has only been live for about a week, this competition will be only for those who can put together a game in about 14 days. The software competition wraps up October 15th, which in a nutshell is any title that uses the Physx SDK in software (no hardware required) can win all the marbles. The hardware accelerated contest closes November 15th, so you have a WHOLE six weeks from now to wrap your mind around it.
The competition requires the use of Dark Physics - a development tool that has been fine tuned to work with Physx. Have a peek at the rules.

Computer Games Online has a fairly comprehensive two part interview with Jeremy Stieglitz, President and Lead Developer of Artificial Studios regarding Cell Factor: Revolution. Some of the more interesting things to come out of the interview include some details on various character classes including the psionic-only class 'Bishop'.

Over at Firing Squad they have a Preview of Alpha Prime, a title by Black Element Software. This is a Physx accelerated title and is physics-centric but unfortunately the previewer John Callaham did not have a Physx card at his disposal. I have contacted the publisher, IDEA Games to see about getting some accelerated vs. software only screenshots. Stay Tuned!

I thought I would post up a link to the Ageia page that lists all the currently released titles and the ones coming up for release on the Ageia website. What I am going to try to do is harvest this information somehow and with the cooperation of the developers / publishers see if I can work up some decently autonomous release calendar. That way people can see at a glance what new Physx enabled games are coming down the chute or whether a new patch has come out for an existing title which will enrich the gaming experience. Stay tuned!

Over at Anandtech Ryan Smith has a look at City of Villians with the final patch for the Ageia card. The performance shines compared to the previously panned beta patch, and it seems that all the technical issues Anandtech had with the patch have been resolved.

Welcome to Planet Physx - a site dedicated to following all things PPU (Physics Processing Unit). I'll be throwing blog-style stories up here from time to time and covering tidbits of interesting news. Ageia, my benefactor through virtue of advertising dollars, is currently the only name in the game when it comes to PPUs although some major players are seeking to follow Ageia's lead into the dedicated physics realm. Comments are moderated as we aren't a Troll and Flame board - criticism is welcome but if it begins with j00 thanks but no thanks.
